With the start of the development activities in 2008 García del Río was one of the very first projects of SOWITEC Argentina. The wind project is located in the Buenos Aires province just 30 km north from the local office in the city of Bahia Blanca. It was designed as a small pilot project with 10 MW, in order to have a first footprint in the country. Together with the Chinese turbine manufacture SOWITEC build up a strong partnership. In 2016 García del Río finally won with the lowest awarded price in the RenovAR 1.0, setting a national benchmark.

SOWITEC won the land tender for the project area in the province of Neuquén. The development duration was longer than expected at the beginning due to the high uncertainties of the renewable energy market and economic landscape in Argentina. When the tender program run out SOWITEC was able to secure the land by a private land lease agreement and could finalize the development. The project was sold to ENVISION in 2016. The Chinese company participated successfully in the RenovAR 1.0 with the first phase of 75 MW. Los Meandros is the only project in Neuquén that was able to win in the national tenders so far.
