Ventos da Bahia I

Brazil

After seven years of development by SOWITEC do Brasil, the first phase of the wind cluster Ventos da Bahia, located in the Chapada Diamantina in the northeastern state Bahia, started its operations in 2017. One of the main concerns during the development process was to diagnose the particularities of the social-environmental aspects, such as communities located along the access roads, quilombola communities and endangered species, among others.

SOWITEC together with the community developed a comprehensive program aiming at informing the inhabitants about the wind farm and the incorporation of the interests of the community. Among other actions, SOWITEC supported cultural events, donated drinking fountains to schools, funded a sports event integrating the community and the employees of the company.

Delfina

Brazil

The development of the wind complex Delfina by SOWITEC do Brasil started in 2008 and it took almost 10 years until the project was put into operation in 2017. It is in the surroundings of the project where the most recent unit of Environmental Conservation of the country, the Boqueirão da Onça National Park, was created. Right from the beginning of the development SOWITEC was concerned with the preservation of the endangered vegetation and animals in the region. Consequently, the studies developed by SOWITEC have assisted the decisions to create the preservation unit as well as to develop a Specific Conservation Monitoring Program for the spotted jaguar and lear-blue-arara, an endemic species from Bahia. The local community of Queixo Dantas benefited from the activities of SOWITEC by gaining an artesian well.

The cluster nowerdays consists of seven subparks totaling 180 MW and represents a mix of power supply agreements, where 90 MW were commercialized through the Reserve Energy Auction (LER 2014) and 90 MW through private PPAs on the free market.
